This slide arrived labelled as a second-basic
Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides kumlieni) photographed
by Tony Leukering at Tullytown Landfill, Penn. on 24th December
1991. I have some serious misgivings about this bird: it looks
too large, too big-headed (and small-eyed), and too short-winged
for ICGU - in fact, it seems to show some features of a small-billed
(= female) GWGU, or a barrovianus GLGU, or maybe it's a
hybrid (what parentage?); any comments
on this bird?
