This adult gull was at Elliot Landfill, Corpus Christi, Texas
on January 26, 2005; I feel that the general size and structure
(similar to small smithsonianus, but less awkward-looking,)
shortish rather even-width bill, mantle tone (hard to judge in
strong sun, but seen to be darker than nearby smiths and
RBGUs,) strongly dark-speckled irides, raspberry orbital rings,
bright pink legs, and wingtip pattern combine to make a Thayer's Gull Larus thayeri that is towards the dark end of
primary markings:
