This gull was at the Elliot Landfill, Corpus Christi, Texas on December 28 2004; whenever I see such a pale bird, I expect it to be a 2nd- Basic - but close examination of this bird shows it to be 1st Basic, and as such a good fit for Vega Gull Larus {argentatus} vegae:

Note on the 2B HERG the blacker, rounded 2nd- generation primaries, the marbling on the lower teritals and on the inner greater secondary coverts, and the much fresher condition of the wing coverts and tertials:
