This 2nd-cycle large gull was photographed in east Houston, Harris county, Texas on February 12, 2008; I presume it to be a variant of smithsonianus but was struck by its resemblance to Caspian Gull. I'd value feedback from those familiar with the variation within 2nd-cycle Caspian Gull, indicating what features of this bird would be good/bad for such an ID, theoretically (sadly these are the only images I obtained of the bird). Of note is that this adult Vega Gull was present in the same flock.:
