This 1st-Basic smithsonianus Herring Gull was photographed on December 21, 2000 in western Fort Worth, Texas by Martin Reid. The mantle and upper scapulars are first-basic feathers, while the lowest scapulars are worn juvenile scapulars; Note the pattern of the fresh 1B scapulars:
