
This section is devoted to one hundred mostly 2CY large gulls
from Bahrain in March. Many were photographed at the Municipal
Landfill (above), while others were at loafing sites along the
coast. Based on the ratio of adult birds (and I acknowledge that
this may not be an accurate method), 80%+ of the large gulls
are barabensis, with cachinnans/ponticus at about
12% and heuglini at about 7% (ichthyaetus and
fuscus were also present in Bahain in small numbers, but
almost never seen at the landfill). All images were taken by
me in Bahrain in early March of 1999. NOTE: I did have
a photographic bias towards birds with darkish underwings, thus
these images are not a truly random sample. I would be
